
Phase 1: Community Advisory Board Formation and Curriculum Development
Organize project advisory board that includes
5 Black older adults (Metro Detroit)
5 Hispanic older adults (Lubbock, Texas) 6 undergraduate or graduate students of diverse backgrounds (both locations)
Use monthly meetings with advisory board to:
Develop 8-week program curriculum
i. Life story exchange component (older adults and students)
ii. Computer literacy training for older adults Identify best practices for program recruitment, retention, and deliver
Phase 2: Pre-Pilot Testing
Pre-test the newly developed 8-week program among 6 older adult-student pairs in order to
Refine the curriculum
Test program procedures
Identify and address problems that may impact program delivery
Phase 3: Pilot Testing
Pilot the program among 52 older adult-student pairs in Lubbock and Metro Detroit
Student training: working with older adults, conducting life story interviews, using Chromebooks
Program Orientation for older adults and students
Weekly older adult-student meetings
